I never thought myself too much of a photographer. I just like taking pictures, taking pictures of someone and something that has meaning to me. Techniques and equipments don’t matter to me, what matters to me is how I want people to see what I see and feel what i feel. I want to be there to capture moments of life and create images that stir people’s emotion. People Therefore, I have grow fond of candid photography. They are spontaneous, immediate and honest. And, that’s pretty much what this show is about.
In this exhibition, What Matters to Me: Meng-chi’s Personal Images, I included some dear musician friends who have fascinated me with their live performance and also opened my door to Jazz. I watched some of them playing music for the first time and was extremely moved. So I decided listening to their music and watching their performance via my camera lens was the best way to show my support. Together, we created audio and visual forms of art that touches many souls.
In addition, the day my friend Alicia said “I do,” I was honored to be in her wedding. Although I was really supposed to stand there and be taken pictures, I couldn’t hold back. I constantly jumped in front of the happy couple and snapped shots in my gown and sky-high stiletto. However, it was worth of my effort. Those wedding photographs you see is how i want them to remember their wedding day.
When i get behind that lens, my feeling becomes sharp, and I don’t think about anything. I let my heart decides when to push that shutter and how to frame that story. The desire to make my people look happy and beautiful is what keeps me going. To me, the passion and energy used in creativity is what makes me special. I want images that everyone can relate themselves to. I love what I do and hope you enjoy the show.
